CAI hosts Annual Meeting of Chinese Society of Asian and African Studies in Guangzhou

The 2023 Annual Meeting of Chinese Society of Asian and African Studies (CSAAS) was held in Guangzhou city, Guangdong Province on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26, 2023. Mr. He Meng, Counsellor of the Department of African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China made a presentation on the current situation in Africa and China-Africa relations. Professor Li Xinfeng, the newly elected president of CSAAS, executive president of China-Africa Institute (CAI) made an opening speech at the annual meeting.

The meeting was co-organized by CSAAS, CAI and University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS). More than 150 scholars and students from over 70 universities and research institutes attended the meeting. Wu Chuanhua, Secretary General of CSAAS, associate research fellow of the CAI and executive deputy editor-in-chief of Journal of China-Africa Studies made a concluding speech.

The theme of the meeting is “Chinese modernization and Asia-Africa common development” and is composed of six sessions with sub-topics for discussion: the enlightenment of Chinese modernization on Asian and African development; the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind; the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and African development; the Global Security Initiative (GSI) and African security; the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI) and African culture and civilization, and the Youth Academic Forum. About 60 representatives participated in the discussion.
Six sessions of the meeting
The CSAAS was founded in April, 1962, and is one of the earliest academic societies established in China to study international issues. It aims at promoting political, economic, cultural, religious and social studies in Asian and African countries, and to strengthen academic exchanges domestically and internationally. The CSAAS has held eight sessions of member congress. Currently, there are a total of 222 members of congress in the society, including 74 executive members.
