Introduction
Under the auspices of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Institute of African Studies at Zhejiang Normal University (IASZNU) was established in 2007. It is the first comprehensive African research institute in Chinese universities and the first academic institution with a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program specializing in African Studies. The IASZNU has been selected by the MOE as one of the first "Huang Danian-Type Faculty Teams", a Regional and Country-Specific Studies Center Registered with the Ministry of Education, the Research Center for China-South Africa People-to-people Exchanges, and the Chinese member of the "China-Africa Universities 20+20 Cooperation Plan. It has been selected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a consultancy unit of the Advisory Committee for the China-Africa Joint Research and Exchange Plan and one of the Chinese think tanks of the "China-Africa Think Tanks 10+10 Partnership Plan”. The institute is also titled by Zhejiang Province a top-ranking discipline of Political Science, a Provincial 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center, and a new key professional think tank. It has been listed in the "Best Regional Research Center (University-affiliated)" of Global Go To Think Tank Index Report by the University of Pennsylvania for four consecutive years. It ranked the sixth among the top 15 Think Tanks of Regional Research and International Relations in the 2019 Chinese Think Tank Index (CTTI) and was rated A+ among the top 100 Think Tanks of Chinese Universities in the 2018 CTTI. It was also selected into the List of Key Think Tanks in "Comprehensive Evaluation AMI Research Report on Chinese Think Tank (2017)" published by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
