The Ninth China Lecture Convened in Beijing by China-Africa Institute

Co-organized by the China-Africa Institute, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and National School of Government (South Africa), the 9th China Lecture was successfully convened online on November 12, 2021. Under the theme of “Party Building and Governance Capacity of CPC”, Prof. Fan Peng of UCASS, the keynote speaker and researcher of the Institute of Political Science of CASS shared his insights with more than 50 officials and scholars from South Africa and other African countries. The session was chaired by Prof. Wang Xiaoming, Vice President of China-Africa Institute.

Reflecting upon the two dimensions of party building and governance capacity of Communist Party of China, Prof. Fan Peng introduced to African scholars and officials the thought of CPC, with a particular focus on Xi Jinping Thought on the Governance of China. In addition to the review of the historic journey and theoretical assets of CPC across different stages, the lecture also delved into the political, theoretical, organizational, disciplinary and institutional capacity building efforts of CPC, with improved conduct. Prof. Fan Peng highlighted the efforts and achievements of CPC in building a modern governance system with modernized governance capacity, which further underpins the continuous enhancement of its governance capacity.

South African scholars also contributed to the session, with observations on their domestic ruling party. By pooling their wisdom, both Chinese and African scholars had an in-depth exchange of ideas on governance capacity of political parties.
