Wang Jian graduated from the Department of History, Peking University (PKU), since then he has been working in West-Asian and African Studies (IWAAS) of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He is now an associate research fellow of the IWAAS and Director of Library and Information Department, China-Africa Institute (CAI)
