Yao Guimei (Female), professor for the division of economic research,

Chief for the Center of Southern African Studies in Institute of West-Asian and African Studies (the China-Africa Institute), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS); master’s studies supervisor of the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Vice president of China Society for African Studies, standing member of the Asia-Africa Association of China, standing member of China Society of Emerging Economies,CASS.

Born in March 1964 in Beijing. B.A. (1987) degrees in Department of Economics f Beijing Normal University. In charge of foreign affairs and research management of the Division of research plan and coordination of IWAAS,CASS from 1987-1991. Being an assistant professor from 1992-1998. Being an associate professor from 1998 to 2006. From August to December of 1999, served as a visiting scholar at the center for African studies in University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,USA. Being an professor from Sept.2006 to the present. Being a lead researcher on innovation projects of CASS including Research on China’s Investment Strategies in Africa and Research on Production Capacity Cooperation between China and Africa. Specially I have been devoted to the studies for more than 36 years on African economic development,regional economic integration in Africa and economic relations between China and Africa countries. I have visited more than 20 African countries,chaired and participated in over a dozen research projects from government organizations, and submitted more than 40 think-thank reports.From 2012 to 2016, I won the CASS Award for the Excellence in Countermeasure Studies twice for the second prize,and the tree times for the third prize.
