  The Academic Seminar on “Building China-Africa Community of a Shared Future” and the Press Conference of Chinese and English Version of “Think Tank Report of a New Era in China-Africa Friendly Cooperation” held successfully

  On the afternoon of September 10th, 2018, the Academic Seminar on “Building China-Africa Community of a Shared Future” and the press conference of Chinese and English version of “Think Tank Report of a New Era in China-Africa Friendly Cooperation” was held in IWAAS, CASS. The conference was co-held by Bureau of International Cooperation, CASS, IWAAS, CASS, and China Social Sciences Press, and was hosted by Wang Yin, assistant of editor-in-chief of China Social Sciences Press. Wang Lei, director of Bureau of International Cooperation, CASS, Zhao Jianying, director of China Social Sciences Press, and Li Xinfeng, deputy director of IWAAS made speeches at the opening ceremony. The authors and translators of Think Tank Report, the experts of African studies, and mass media also presented the conference.

   At the opening ceremony, Director Wang Lei pointed out that the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) not only marked a new era of China-Africa relationship, but also present new topics for African studies. He also indicated the CASS should make full use of academic resources to offer the intelligent support for China-Africa Cooperation and play a bigger role as a think tank. Director Zhao Jianying congratulated the publication of Think Tank Report of a New Era in China-Africa Friendly Cooperation, and indicated that the Think Tank Report is the significant achievement of China-Africa research and the display of a strong research team. Deputy Director of IWAAS Li Xinfeng introduced the hard process of Think Tank Report, from the initial plan to the publication, and summarized the five characteristics: the coordination of main report and sub-reports, hot topics, a powerful response to Western misunderstanding, professional authors and translators, and unified and standard writing style.

  Then, the representatives of the authors delivered speeches. Yang Baorong, the author of The Belt and Road Initiative and China-Africa Industrial Production Cooperation, illustrated the necessity of China-Africa industrial production cooperation and introduced the main path of cooperation. Wu Chuanhua, the author of main report and China-Africa Cultural Communication Cooperation, thought the Think Tank Report is of great importance regarding the time, strategy and practice. He also put forward some suggestions on the publicity of China-Africa relationship. An Chunying, the author of China-Africa Poverty Alleviation Cooperation and Experience Sharing, introduced the characteristics and development tendency of China-Africa poverty alleviation cooperation, and indicated that the poverty alleviation is the joint point of the vital interest of Chinese and African people. Chen Xiangjing, president of the School of Foreign Languages, Xi 'an Jiaotong University, emphasized the importance of translation work in the Chinese culture’s going out, and expected to forge the stable cooperation among the related institutes to make contributions to establish academic discourse system.

   In the part of expert review, Ambassador Shu Zhan, Senior Research Fellow from Institute of African Studies, Zhengjiang Normal University, pointed out the establishment of discourse system should aim at African countries, and the mutual learning of civilization should include economy, politics, education and so on. Building the objective mutual understanding is the first step to bring people closer. Xu Weizhong, director and research fellow of the Institute of African Studies, China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, reviewed the Think Tank Report using four words, “creativity, high-efficiency, strength and joint efforts”. He also indicated the think tank should play a bigger role in the publicity to international society.

  Think Tank Report of a New Era in China-Africa Friendly Cooperation, consists of one main report A New Era in China-Africa Friendly Cooperation: New Achievements, New Opportunities and New Vision, and eight sub-reports, China-Africa Direct Investment Cooperation, The Belt and Road Initiative and China-Africa Industrial Production Cooperation, China-Africa Poverty Alleviation Cooperation and Experience Sharing, China-Africa Culture Communication Cooperation, China-Africa Peace and Security Cooperation, Friendly Cooperation between China and Kenya , Social Responsibility Report of Chinese Enterprises in Africa, and Zheng He’s Sailing far away to Africa and 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road. The Think Tank Report is published by China Social Sciences Press, and co-organized to write by IWAAS, CASS, and Bureau of International Cooperation, CASS.
